Not legal advice. This page is a draft prepared by the LoonieLogic team from Canadian compliance research. A Canadian lawyer must review it before publication.
What LoonieLogic is
LoonieLogic is a Canadian personal-finance education website. We explain how money works in Canada (TFSAs, RRSPs, FHSAs, taxes, mortgages, brokerages, CPP and OAS) and we build calculators and comparisons so you can run the math yourself.
The whole site follows one path: Learn the rules in plain English, Try them with calculators that do real Canadian math, and Do something with a provider you chose, using comparison pages that actually name a pick and show the math behind it.
What LoonieLogic is not
- We are not financial advisors, investment advisors, financial planners, tax preparers, or lawyers. No one on the LoonieLogic team is licensed to give advice, and we don’t present ourselves as if we were.
- Nothing on this site is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. We explain how things work. We do not tell you what to do with your money.
- Nothing here is personalized to you. We don’t know your situation, your income, your debts, or your goals. Our content is general education, not a recommendation for any individual. Calculators show the math on the numbers you entered, and the results are estimates, not instructions.
- When a comparison page names a pick, it is a general comparison of providers on fees, features, and fit for a typical reader, not advice about your situation.
- We never recommend specific stocks, ETFs, or cryptocurrencies, and we never publish “buy this” calls.
For advice tailored to your situation, a licensed professional in your province is the right person to ask.
How we make money (our interests, disclosed)
LoonieLogic is free to use. We plan to keep the lights on with affiliate partnerships: if you open an account with a bank, brokerage, or other provider through a link on this site, that provider may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you.
That means we can have a financial interest in the products we compare. Here is exactly how we handle that:
- We disclose it. Every page with affiliate links carries a clear disclosure near the top, before the first link, and there is a standing page with the full details: How we make money (affiliate disclosure).
- Commissions do not change our math. Our calculator formulas, comparison tables, and worked examples are the same whether or not we earn from the provider shown.
- Recommendations are never sold. If a product pays us and a competitor doesn’t, the better product still wins. Anything we say about a provider reflects documented research, never payment.
This disclosure is written to meet the “financial interest” disclosure expectations in Canadian securities guidance (NI 31-103 s.8.25(3), applied by analogy) and the Competition Act’s material-connection rules. See How we make money for the full policy.
Who writes this
LoonieLogic is written and published by the LoonieLogic team, an independent Canadian publisher. We are educators and personal-finance writers: not registered advisors, not a brokerage, not a lender, not an insurer, and not affiliated with any government agency.
How we keep our content honest
- Figures are sourced and dated. Every rate, limit, fee, and promotion in our content comes from an official source (CRA, provider fee schedules, legislation), and each page shows when it was last reviewed. Money facts go stale, so we re-check on a schedule and say when a promotion expires.
- We fix mistakes publicly. If we publish something wrong, we correct it and note the correction.
- We say “we don’t know” when we don’t know. Financial regulation is complex. Where the law is a grey area (for example, how calculator outputs are treated by securities regulators) we say so and frame our outputs conservatively: estimates, not verdicts.
Why the name
The loonie is the most Canadian coin there is. Logic is what your money decisions deserve. Put them together and you get the whole mission: Canadian money, explained clearly enough to act on.
